Ready To Retiring @ Sixty For Both Genders ???

Our civil servants in this part of the world are pushing the Government to extend their retirement to 60 years of age.

I stand to be corrected. But, it seems to me that since the call to improve on the delivery system was made by our Prime Minister after taking office a few years ago; there could have been a paradigm shift in the 'mindsets' and 'values' system of our civil servants at large.

Perhaps, our civil servants may have re-examined and re-defined their values towards 'work'.

They could have re-learnt what improving the delivery system is all about.

Or, they may have possibly been so highly re-motivated by the Leadership after benefiting from a new and attractive financial package so much so that they are now pushing the Government to allow them to stay on or occupy that post or that space till they reach sixty years of age.

I am not sure if they have been very effectively and efficiently contributing since the 'call' on improving the delivery system was made.

But, they were even prepared to drop and forgo their short-term monetary demand so long as they are allowed to gladly retire at 60 years of age and this clearly reflects how much their mindset, values, love and motivation for their jobs have changed. To me, these civil servants are now very passionate and confident on holding onto their jobs and occupying that space or post (depending on how you look at it) till sixty years of age.

It  is fine with me to allow people to retire at sixty years of age. To me, age is only a number. If you mind, it matters. If you don't, it does'nt matters. I support it. But, such a decision should be made pari pasu and for the benefit of all and applies to either gender. And, not to cater for a certain sector. If such an across the board decision is made, our Country will ultimately benefit most. What comes immediately to my mind is that our Country will be able to tap from a very much bigger, experienced cum knowledged based workforce which bring about higher efficiency, productivity, skills, support, maturity and last but not least in meeting with the challenging demands of nation-building much more effectively.

What is your take on this? Do you still think that in the private sector, women should still retire st 50, men at 55 whilst the civil servants presently retire at 56 yeras of age? Or, that an across the board decision be made to allow both genders to work till sixty years of age (with an option to earlier retirement)? Your participation by contributing your valued opinions and comments is a big step towards what should be the most appropriate retirement age for all.

Just before yours truly blogs away, to those who may have to retire before any Decision is made, here is a food for thought. 'Do not simply retire from something; have something to retire to'.

Have a Happy Day!!!

  1. Retiring at 50, 55, or 56 years of age is a little too early. Why not later? Yes, 60 seems ideal for to be 60 years young is far more hopeful and cheerful than to be 40 years old.

  2. Yes. I agree with the retiring age at 60. Since our lifespan is getting longer and not shorter. We work longer to earn more to fight inflation. Keep bloging !!! Cheers.
