What do you think are some of the important factors of leadership?

David : An important factor is unwavering courage. No followers or supporters wishes to be under a leader who lacks self-confidence and courage.

Mary : Then, there is self-control. A man or a woman who cannot control himself or herself can never control others. Self-control sets an example.

Donald : What about a keen sense of justice? I would say that without a sense of fairness  and justice, no leader can ever command respect.

Jessica : To me, they ought to have the definiteness of decision. I would like to think that if a man wavers in his decisions he cannot lead others successfully.

Richard : Right. There is this definiteness of plans. A successful leader must plan his work and work his plan. A leader, who moves by guesswork, is like a ship without a radar, which sooner or later lands on the rocks.

David : I would add, the habit of doing more than paid for; Leaders must be willing to do more than his followers.

Donald : What about a pleasing personality?

Jessica : To me a true leader must have sympathy and understanding. They must have sympathy with their followers or supporters as well.

Mary : I think true leaders must have the mastery of detail. Successful leadership calls for mastery of the details of the leader's position.

Richard : There is this willingness to assume full responsibility. I would say if one of his followers makes a mistake the leader must consider that it is he who failed.

David : I would add co-operation as well. There are two forms of leadership. The first, and most effective, is leadership by consent of, and with the sympathy of the followers. The second is leadership by force. Men may follow the forced leader temporarily, but they will not do so willingly.
