What A Year In 2008.
2008 the Year of the Rat, could be tagged as the worst year to many of us. From hindsight, it was a year of wild roller coaster ride through wide ranging change - issues from politics to bursting of the housing bubble, global stock markets tumbling, banks collapsing and we are now watching the world struggling to cope with the worst financial meltdown since the Great Depression.
We saw Lewis Hamilton winning the F1 championship then Barrack Obama's win to become the first black president of the United States. In between there was this Chengdu quake followed by the melamin-tainted products from China. The pirates of Aden were also making into the world's new headlines. Not forgetting to mention the amazing Beijing Olympics that caught the world's attention and the recent shocking Mumbai mayhem are a few of the events in 2008.
As for yours truly, I had two laser treatments on my left eye in early 2008. Now, the intermitent transient coming from my right eye. So visually I am "MCC (mong cha cha)" now. I am not sure if it has to get worse before it can get better or is it the beginning of more visionary problems. I am really confused. Then, there were several unexpected personal issues/problems which cropped up that caught me literally off guard. On the other hand, my mama had a knee cap replacement. Thank God she had a marvellous recovery.
Possibly life is such with it's ups and downs, with challenges and triumph thrown in as well. Over the years of growing up, I've learnt through hard knocks that if I am tough with life, life will be a lot easier on me. Time flies. 2008 is fast drawing down it's curtains. The countdown has begun.
In parting, life is like a checkerboard, and the player opposite you is time. If you hesitate before moving or neglect to move promptly, your men will be wiped off the board by time. So you are playing against your partner who will not tolerate indecision. That reminds me of another Chinese saying which my mama always taught me since young, 'A tael of time and a string of gold; A string of gold cannot buy a tael of time.' Think about it and if it makes sense to you; make the right moves as we are about to embark into another year.
Life is short .........
