Is It Really Gender Persecution?
Deborah, was an administrative staff of a large organisation whom I had acquainted many years ago. She got in touch with me just before the Chinese New Year and told me that she was among the twelve others who will lost their jobs after the CNY. In fact, they were all devasted because all the twelve laid off were women.
According to her, "women are losing their jobs at twice the rate of men." And, they are now crying "gender persecution." Deborah, I beg to differ. I would say that in any company, if certain jobs which are less productive and more expendable than others and happened to be female dominated, than this exercise is nothing more than cogent to shed this 'fat' first, so to speak.
If I am allowed to speak my mind and no pun intended Deborah, the easiest employees to axe are those in the administrative and customer service, which also happened to be mainly dominated by women. And, you have kept telling me in good times that, "women just outshine men in these areas of specialization." If I may add, this reveals how far our workplace is from achieving gender equality. "Discriminatory?" In unrefined terms, men are the key and women optional. Bye! ...... Deborah.
