The Different Meanings Of "Stress."
To an architect or engineer, "stress" may mean the internal strain in a building, bridge or structure. It is refered as the ratio of force to area.
On the other hand, to a debate coach, "stress" may mean emphasizing a particular word.
While the musicial composer considers "stress" when thinking of melody or beat.
And, when we say to our Doctors that "I am under unbelievable stress, "it means that I am actually feeling time and decision-making pressures. Guys and gals beware, it is this last usage of the word that requires re-examination.
To most of us, "stress" is a sinister force that we must grapple with and overcome. Admittedly, I have my fair share of stress lately. Yes, I was heavily stressed by the turn political events happening here. Now that it is fait accompli, I have to de-stress myself gradually. I noticed that the energy generated by stress can be used either positively or negatively. It is a matter of our personal interpretation.
