In a negotiation, an ultimatum can be a good ploy. It closes down the other side's options for side-stepping the issues. But it must be used very sparingly and only at the right time or it can weaken your position. What it says is that there is no further negotiations available - period.

In this case, you have also closed down your options. Therefore, you had better be extremely certain that the position you want to establish is the only one you will countenance. Many have missed out on good opportunities by playing the card too soon. That is the essential weaknesses of the ploy.
